Back to School

With school just a few days away I had to do a little back to school shopping for the boys. Most of the things I purchased were for Aaron...I mean he's the only one going starting school.  I love button ups for Aaron because he likes to always look put together. He's such a little man. I also picked up a few graphic tees because this kid is into action! He's all about TMNT, Spiderman, Captain America, Hulk, Superman and let me not forget Batman! He also needed a few pairs of shoes after running down the ones he got earlier this summer. He can go through some shoes...boys will be boys, right?!?!

I've always enjoyed back to school shopping even as a child. My parents would always take us a few weeks before school started so that we could pick out some new gear for the fall/winter season. The night before the first day we would pick out our clothes and would hardly sleep anticipating what the next day would bring.

Aaron is already beyond excited for school and when he found out he was getting a few new things he was almost jumping for joy! He's starting a brand new school and may not know anyone in his class but he is so happy to be going to school! I'm so looking forward to this new chapter as we start to learn new things and build new friendships. Tomorrow we will be going to Kindergarten Orientation and will meet his teacher. I have my camera and phone on standby so be on the lookout for a few pics.

Let's work it out!!!
Here is a HIIT workout that is simple yet effective! Enjoy!
Complete the following exercises for 30 seconds each at high intensity and rest for 10 seconds if needed. Complete the entire workout up to 3 times!
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Wall Sit
  • Push Ups
  • Crunches
  • Chair Step Ups
  • Squats
  • Tricep Dips
  • Plank
  • High Knees/Running in Place
  • Lunges
  • Push Up Rotations
  • Side Plank
*You can always modify exercises if necessary.

Workout Wednesday



If you workout regularly you have to give your body a proper rest day! A day where all you do is relax and enjoy your downtime. You can still be active on your rest day but nothing strenuous just a light walk around the block or a trip to the playground will suffice.

I promise to be back with another workout next week. Just wanted you to know that with all this working out you have to rest in order to give your body time to recover. I typically make Sundays my rest days because it's a day for me to relax and unwind and prepare for the long week ahead. It gives me the rest I need in order to work hard throughout the week. I like to start Mondays off with a hardcore strength training workout so Sunday is a day of preparation.

The summer is the absolute BEST time to wear dresses! The weather is nice and sunny and these days in DC it's quite breezy as well. For my personal body type (bigger on bottom) I prefer to wear skater dresses. They are your similar to your A-line style of dresses but are more fuller on the bottom. I love them because they are simple yet classy and they compliment my figure. However, skater dresses are flattering on ALL different body types. This is a great universal style regardless if you are bigger on top, curvy or slender. If you haven't already, I highly recommend going out and trying on the skater dress. Instantly you will notice your waste is smaller and you appear to have a hourglass figure, no complaints there! :-)

I'm not ready!!!

I have a confession. 

My baby will be starting school in a few weeks and I'm NOT ready!!!

I mean we are prepared and have everything we need but I'm just not mentally ready for this next step.  It's crazy to think that Aaron is 5 and will be getting on a school bus. I just can't believe it! I have always looked forward to when Aaron would be heading off to school.  I guess I'm just a little taken back on how quickly we got here. 

Despite being a little down about this next step, I'm really excited for him to start school! He will be learning lots of new things and building long-term relationships that he may have forever. I just need to come to the realization that my baby is no longer a baby :-( This is the moment I break down!!! I don't know why it's so hard for me! I'm not ready for him to grow up! I guess I better get it together and FAST! I only have a few weeks left to get in the right mindset. 

 OK....breakdown over....

Okay, emotional rant over! I think I got it all out well until I actually send him on his merry way. Praying that I will be strong enough to fight back tears on that first day. I don't want Aaron to see me sad. It's just life....we learn, live, and grow! So what is there really to be afraid of??? I think for me personally seeing Aaron grow over the years has made me realize that life is always moving regardless if you are ready or not. 

I remember a few days before Aaron was born....I wasn't ready to be a mom but at the same time I wanted him out of my belly! I had morning sickness all throughout my pregnancy and I was exhausted!  Well, the moment I laid eyes on Aaron I was in awe. ...I was speechless!  I remember my mom telling me to say hello! Like every new mother I had to get accustomed to my new lifestyle but I've enjoyed it so much!I wouldn't go back and change a thing if I could.

Aaron and I have been through so much and he has grown tremendously!  At one point I thought our life was going to be controlled by his EE disorder but we've overcome that. I may not be ready but I know that Aaron is ready and honestly that's all that matters. I have no worries that he will do very well in his first year of elementary school.

Life lately

We've just been enjoying life lately and crossing off things from our Summer list ! Wrapped up our summer vacation last month and have already taken several trips to the Water park.  Aaron completed his swimming lessons for the summer and will be moving on to the next level! So proud of that guy, he has really learned a lot this summer. Depending on how smoothly Kindergarten goes in a few weeks I think I will put him in swimming lessons for the fall. He really loves the water and I want him to be a great swimmer. We have a few more things planned for the summer so I'm really hoping we can do most if not all the things we planned to do this summer.

Love yourself ♡

Lately I've been seeing a lot of stuff on TV and the internet about self love.  Everything is centered around loving yourself and starting a strong foundation before loving others.  I agree completely that you must first love yourself before you can even begin to truly love some else. This includes family, friends and everyone in between.  

I show and tell the boys I love them everyday not only because they are the loves of my life but also because I want them to know that they are awesome! I praise them because I want them to be comfortable with who they are and to love themselves.  The world can be very cruel especially for children. I want to make sure both Aaron and Andrew have enough love, courage and confidence to fight the world when times get tough.

  Love is patient, love is kind. 
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Workout Wednesday

Now that I'm back in a groove with my workouts. I want to be honest and say that I would love to go to the gym between 4-5 days a week.  However, it's just not ideal for me. Some days I have more time than others and on those days I'm in the gym. Now on the other days...I'm at home! Whenever I'm running low on time or weather is bad I always opt for at home workouts. 

I have several different fitness dvds to keep me busy at home. I enjoy switching things up to keep my body guessing. A few of my favorites are Chalean Johnson's Turbo Fire, Shaun T's T25 and Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred.

If you are not familiar with the dvds belowI highly recommend you try them out! All in all they are around 20-30 minutes and will give you a great workout. Happy Wednesday! Can you tell I'm ready for the weekend! :-)

I LOVE Turbo Fire! If you are looking for a fun intense workout then this is it! The workouts range anywhere from 20 minutes to 50 minutes. Chalean Johnson is full of energy and will keep you motivated throughout the workouts.

T25 is INTENSE! If you want a workout that will have you sweating from start to finish this is it! I promise you this workout will give you exactly what you are looking for but be ready to WORK!!! The workout is only 25 minutes and because of that you get zero breaks! So be ready to push it!

Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred has always been my go to workout dvd! Her workouts are simple and effective! Roughly about 30 minutes per workout so its perfect when you are running low on time but want a really good workout. Her workouts are broken down into 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. It's the perfect sequence so that you stay motivated throughout your workout.

Vacation Recap

We traveled to the good old Sunshine State a few weeks ago and had a GREAT time! We had such a great time that we didn't want to come back. I think next time we go we need to plan for an entire week and then a few extra days to get settled back at home.
